4Hunyadi Market Lángos
A stunning Renaissance Revival building cloaks the Hunyadi Market in Budapest’s District 6, although a gut renovation has long been overdue; this has finally started, which means that the vendors were moved into the containers that are lined up outside the market. One of those vendors is probably the best lángos shop in Budapest, hawking delicious and affordable discs of fried flatbread. In addition to the standard sour-cream-and-cheese topping, options include cooked cabbage, red onions, and frankfurters.
One could opt for a small version and leave room for a couple of palacsinta (crepes) with homemade tea – sweet and nostalgic. A line usually forms at midday. Note that the other gem of the market is the pickled veggies vendor, just a few stalls to your left.
