Located in the heart of the city right behind the Opera House, Bitzinger is the most famous and most touristed sausage shop in Vienna (past visitors include Mick Jagger). While waiting in line, you might notice the plastic rabbit perched atop the kiosk as a playful reference to Albrecht Dürer's famous drawing exhibited at the neighboring Albertina Museum. Apart from the classics – cheese-filled Käsekrainer, roast Bratwurst, Frankfurters – there's also champagne for the glitzy post-opera crowd. Once here, you could spend a moment at the monument against war and fascism across the street.

To remain unbiased, I visit all places incognito and pay for my own meals and drinks. I rely in large part on readers to support my work. I'm grateful if you make a one-time payment (PayPal, Venmo, Revolut) or subscribe to my weekly newsletter in which I write about Budapest and Vienna.
