People on Caffeine

How often have you had coffee, let alone specialty coffee, inside a Baroque church? Well, not exactly in the nave, but in an extension of the building. And not just any church, since the Alser Vorstadt Kirche was the venue of Ludwig van Beethoven’s funeral service in 1827! People on Caffeine was one of the early birds in Vienna’s new-wave landscape when it opened in 2011. Customers, most of them college students from the University of Vienna’s campus across the street, can pick their coffee from two types of beans at all times. The inside relies on artificial lighting so I usually get my verlängerter (Americano) to go, but lingering is welcome, the service friendly. Closed on weekends!
