TG Italiano Budapest

TG Italiano (Tom George) is an upper-middle priced Italian restaurant situated on a tourist-heavy downtown street in Budapest. Thanks to its central location and reliable dishes, TG is a favorite of tourists and local businessmen. The restaurant features a chic, spacious interior which comes complete with an outdoor terrace that's heated and covered in the colder months and is perfect for people watching.

TG Italiano serves pan-Italian classics that include everything from Caprese salad (€8) to Bolognese with home made pappardelle (€13) and wood-oven pizzas. They use a charcoal grill to prepare some of the dishes of which the branzino fish (€16) and the sliced sirloin blanketed in parmesan and arugula (€20) were my favorites. Those with a sweet tooth should be sure to get the torta della nonna, a custard-filled Tuscan indulgence that arrives in a sea of vanilla creme anglaise at TG. Expect a long wine list of both Italian and Hungarian bottles.

Overall, TG Italiano's food isn’t going to blow your mind, but it's one of those high-turnover restaurants with reliable dishes and a professional service. It can get crowded, so be sure to book early (and ask for a table on the outdoor patio).
