4Joseph Brot (Albertinaplatz)
Opened in 2009, Joseph’s Brot was among the avant-garde in Vienna’s new-wave bakery revolution. The company’s success has been so complete that today it operates a nationwide chain, two of which are in Vienna’s city center. Both polished, sharp-looking, and very expensive. Let me draw your attention to the kaiser rolls, the almond and chocolate croissants, and the potato sticks (Stangerl). Note that this location, across the Albertina Museum, also has a dining room but you'll likely have to fight with fellow tourists for an open seat on the weekends.
To remain unbiased, I visit all places incognito and pay for my own meals and drinks. I rely in large part on readers to support my work. I'm grateful if you make a one-time payment (PayPal, Venmo, Revolut) or subscribe to my weekly newsletter in which I write about Budapest and Vienna.
