TG Italiano Budapest (Tom George)

TG Italiano (Tom George) is a pricey Italian restaurant on a tourist-heavy downtown street in Budapest. The spacious restaurant features a chic interior complete with an outdoor terrace that's heated and covered in the colder months, making it a perfect spot for people watching.

The pan-Italian dishes include everything from Caprese salad (€10) to pappardelle with a homemade Bolognese sauce (€13), wood-oven pizzas, and a rib eye made from Chianina beef (€27). They use a charcoal grill to prepare some of the dishes of which the branzino (€16) and the sliced sirloin blanketed in parmesan and arugula (€21) were my favorites. Those with a sweet tooth should not miss the seasonal desserts, which might include torta della nonna, a custardy Tuscan indulgence, or a classic millefoglie (€6). There's a long wine list of both Italian and Hungarian bottles.

Although the food isn't revoltionary, TG Italiano is one of those high-turnover restaurants with reliable dishes and a professional service. It often gets crowded, so be sure to book in advance (and ask for a table on the outdoor patio).
