Kimberly Cafe & Bar
Who knows, perhaps one day the area around Nagymező Street in Budapest's District 6 will become the center of Budapest's still-fledgling gay bar scene. Here, not far from the long-standing Alterego Club, stands Kimberly, a gay bar doubling as a small club. With welcoming bartenders and windows overlooking the street, Kimberly feels a long way away from the secluded world of Alterego.
The crowd here is mainly 35+, and consists of many old-timers who had been regulars at other gay clubs in Budapest that have since shuttered. It's on Friday and Saturday nights, during the cozy drag shows—the space is tiny—when Kimberly can be buzzy (peformances start at 11:30 p.m.). Things can get lively also during karaoke night on Wednesdays, from 9 p.m. onward. Admission is free.
