Despite the cheeky name, what comes out of the kitchen isn't the dumbed-down "Indian" food unrecognizably adjusted to local tastes - the Indian cooks at Curry House make excellent and real Indian dishes. The biryani with raita is probably the best to be found in Budapest, and the creamy butter chicken is lighter and smoother than in most places. For appetizers, the papad with mango chutney and the chicken kati rolls will not disappoint.
As usual in Budapest Indian restaurants, the extensive menu covers all bases (with a total of 118 items on the menu, including 58 types of curries). Added benefit is the serene location in District 8's Palace District surrounded by grand pre-war residential homes (choose the pretty Horánszky Street for walking off the calories). Note that service can be slow. All in all, of Budapest's Indian restaurants Curry House offers the best combination of food and ambiance. Reservations are a must!
